DISTRACTIONS (SO ANNOYING.)

In room 42 we are constantly being interrupted during classtimes. This is a problem.
Write about this problem under subheadings e.g. What kind of interruptions occur? How does this affect us?

Come up with several possible solutions for this problem.

The speaker phone:
When the speaker phone comes in it always distracts all of us. It gets annoying because sometimes it's a
notice that doesn't involve anyone in our class.

What we can do about it:
The school can set up the speaker phone in a different way. Whoever wants to speak to us can press a button that says what class, house or year you want to speak to.

People with notices:
People in our class are always getting messages to go to the sports office or school office. It is really annoying when they come because it distracts all of us when we need to tell the teacher that someones at the door.

What we can do about it:
We can try to ignore the person who is giving us the notice.

Social Experiment

Task
Clarify and predict the title of the video we will watch today: Social Experiment

Social can mean a group of friends being able to talk to each other without being awkward. Experiment can mean that you test something. I think that when you combined these two words together it could be a person finding something out about social.

Watch this video

AIM:
To find out what people react when someone gives you a good comment and a bad comment from a speaker.

HYPOTHESIS:
I hypothesise that people will be upset when they hear the mean comments, and people will feel happy when they hear the good comments.

EQUIPMENT:
A speaker that plays good and bad comments
A camera
A busy street
A remote control that turns on and off

METHOD:

  1. Turn your camera on record and hide it in a location where you can still see whats going to happen.
  2. Leave your speaker outside on the foot path on the busy street. Turn the speaker on.
  3. Wait until someone comes and turn the speaker on.
  4. See what happens next.

RESULTS:
The people who were given the nasty comments got a fended like I predicted. But when the speaker said good comments everyone was really happy.

CONCLUSION:
This experiment shows what people react to on the internet when they are given good and bad comments. It shows we need to be nice to everybody even though we can't see them.

Scam letter

My teacher received this email on thursday.

This letter is from a person called Emily Park who is apparently a victim of scammers. She wanted to get her money back from the scammer/s so she contacts the FBI where they give her a contact of a lady who can get her money back. Once Emily got her money back the lady who gave her the money gives her everyones contacts who has been scammed. She then asks you to pay $250.0 for the paper fees so you can get your money.

Two reasons this letter is a scam is the lady who gives Emily the money gives everyones contacts who have been scammed. But if this lady is from the FBI why would she give peoples emails to someone she has just meet. The second one is that Emily's email changes.

Give 2 pieces of evidence (excerpts of sentences) that prove that this letter is a scam- A piece of evidence/ sentence that shows this letter is a scam. She says the paying bank. No one says the paying bank. Another one is she says god bless you, again no one says that at the end if a letter.

Alone on a mountain

Imagine this is you.Describe this scene. Describe
- what you smell
- what you hear
- what you  see
- how you feel

The suns bright shards find there way into my small orange tent and are blinding my eyes. I don’t believe I’ve got the strength to even move my body from my sleeping position as yesterdays climb was a big one.

“Come on you can do it” I mutter to myself but as I let go of my hot water bottle to support my body I’m instantly filled with all types of cold. I’ve got a cold heart because my family are at the bottom of the summit, I have a cold head because it’s early in the morning and my brain is still waking up, I also have a cold body because I let go of my hot water bottle. I breathe into my hands hoping for some sort of warmth but nothing comes. Believe me if you were me you would of been crying but I am determined. I open the entrance of my tent. I am amazed I wish I could share this amazing view with somebody, I guess I’m just sharing it with me.  The lone mountain rises by itself below it is a valley like ditch. I stare in awe of mother natures work. I let out a silent cry, I’ve never felt so alone.

Invisible Soldier

Clarify the title of the video we will watch this morning: Invisible Soldier.

I think that this video is about a soldier because the second word is soldier. But seeing as the first word is invisible I think it will be a soldier thats not really seen. This got me thinking that it could be about someone who's fighting something but nobody is really paying attention. Invisible can mean no one is really paying attention or can not see the object.

A. 8 years- How long ago did the army change their camouflage design?
A. Camouflage- What are the army wanting to change?
A. A material pattern which can be used to camouflage soldiers in any terrain or environment.- What are the designers wanting to achieve when creating the new army camouflage?
A. The invisible cloak. - In the movie Harry Potter what does Harry use to become invisible?
A. Quantum stealth technology. - What type of technology do you need for the invisible cloak?
A. By bending the light around the person.- How do you become invisible?
A. Snipers. - Who will benefit the invisible cloak most in the army?
A. No, you don’t need a power source.- Do you need a power source to turn on the new invisibility cloak?

How to be a good friend

This my video on how to be a good friend.  I've made this video with my friend Christine.  It was really fun to make but now it's time to mark...

0 - 3
0 = not done 3 = extremely well done

- Do I have a title slide? We do have title slide. 3 (I think that it's done really well so I give it a 3.)

- Do I have subtitles for the steps? 2 (We just forgot one subtitle at the end but other than that we got all of the other steps.)

- How well does the voiceover timing match the photos? 3 (We have a lot of pictures and they all go with the audio nicely.)

- How well do the photos match the script? 2 (1 or 2 of the photos were a bit off script but other than that the photos matched the scrip really well.)

- Are the photos well focused? 3 (all photos were in good quality.)

- Is the audio clear? 3 (I believe the audio is really clear.)

Reflection
A strength was that we had some good photos that matched the script really well. It was sometimes hard to find the right photos (e.g the one where we had the second to last clip.)
A problem we overcame was trying to think of ideas for photos.

Our best shot was me helping Christine because it shows that I'm really helping her.

A piece of advice I would give to next year’s class making How to Videos is to always be on time and work hard and fast. It gets really hard writing your script but when it's finished you feel relived that you've finished but you also have to now do the photos (the fun part.)

The science behind a glowstick

What I think happens...
I think when you snap a glow stick that the chemicals inside start working when the stick snaps. This can make the glow stick glow.

What I think now...
That there is a tube inside the glow stick that holds a special chemical that glows when the tube is broken.

What I think now (after seeing miss C break the glass.)...
There is a glass tube inside the glow stick. In the glow stick there is one chemical and in the glass tube there is another.  I believe that when you bend the glow stick you are breaking the glass tube sending the chemical around the glow stick making it glow.

What I think now (after researching.)...
I was right about how there is a glass tube inside on the glow stick. There are two chemicals in the glow stick that when mixed make the glow stick glow.

Synthesis is when your at the start and not knowing much about the topic.  Then you researched more
and now you know more about the topic.

Sampling

Yesterday in Maths we learned about sampling.

- What is a sample? Sampling means to take a bit out of the population

- Why take a sample? You take a sample because it's safer, quicker and easier

- What are some examples of sampling done? There are samples in hospitals Science labs that do sampling

- What does the word ‘population’ mean? population means the people that you test

- How can you tell if are you sampling the right population? You do this by looking at the bigger picture and seeing who is really effected

- Yesterday you took a sample using one method of sampling, explain what you did and your findings. Yesterday I did a test to see whether kids in my class do anything after school.

SCIENCE FAIR MONTH

This month is science fair month. This month every person in my school is expected to do a science experiment.  Last year my science fair was called harvest from the sea. I got best year seven science exhibit and a highly commended at regionals, this is why I hope to do well this year.  It is my final year to do science fair so I want to achieve better than I did last year (if that is possible.)
